Privacy Policy
Short version: we don't collect personal information. Your approximate location is used once per visit to look up a pollen forecast, and is never stored on our servers. Advertising is handled by Google AdSense under their standard terms.
1. Who we are
IsItAllergySeasonYet.com ("the site," "we," "us") is an independent pollen-forecast reference operated by a private individual. You can reach us at hello@isitallergyseasonyet.com.
2. What we collect
We do not ask for, receive, or store names, email addresses, account information, or any other personally identifiable information through the core site experience. There is no login, no profile, no user database.
If you voluntarily email us or submit our contact form, we receive whatever you include in that message. We use it only to respond to you and do not add it to a marketing list.
3. Location data
When you first load the site, your browser may ask for permission to share your location. If you grant it, we use your coordinates solely to:
- Look up the current and five-day pollen forecast for your area
- Display your city name alongside the forecast (resolved via OpenStreetMap's Nominatim reverse-geocoder)
- Render a regional map centered on your position
Coordinates are rounded to a ~10 kilometer grid before any API call. We never store the precise or rounded coordinates server-side — the rounded grid is used as a cache key for that day's forecast and expires within 25 hours.
If you deny location permission, the site falls back to a sample forecast, and you can look up any location manually via the "Check another location" input.
4. Cookies
The site itself sets no first-party cookies. However, the following third parties may set cookies:
- Google AdSense and its advertising partners, to deliver and measure ads. These may include personalized advertising cookies. You can review or opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ad Settings or, more broadly, at the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.
5. Advertising
We display ads from Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at the links above.
Some links to recommended products (HEPA filters, over-the-counter medications) are affiliate links — if you click through and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission. This does not affect what we recommend or how we write about it.
6. Third-party services
The site relies on the following third-party services:
- Google Pollen API — pollen forecast data, accessed server-side through our own caching proxy
- Cloudflare Workers & KV — hosts the caching proxy and stores the 10 km-grid forecast for up to 25 hours
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — reverse-geocoding of coordinates into a city name
- CARTO basemaps and OpenStreetMap — map tiles
- Google Fonts — web fonts (Source Serif 4, Inter)
- Google AdSense — advertising
Each of these services has its own privacy policy and terms of use.
7. Analytics
We use Cloudflare's built-in, privacy-respecting traffic analytics (no cookies, no fingerprinting) to understand aggregate traffic volume. We do not use Google Analytics or any cookie-based analytics product.
8. Data retention
Cached pollen forecasts (keyed by ~10 km grid + date) expire automatically within 25 hours. Emails you send us are retained in our inbox for normal business purposes (responding to you, tracking bugs) and are not shared with third parties.
9. Your rights
Because we don't collect personal information, there is generally no personal data for us to access, correct, or delete. If you believe we hold information about you and want it removed, email hello@isitallergyseasonyet.com and we'll sort it out.
California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, and EU/UK residents under the GDPR. We honor these rights in full. Contact us with any request and we'll respond within the applicable legal window.
10. Children
The site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a new effective date. The current version always lives at /privacy.html.
